 We regularly advertise litters as suitable for work and many people as what this means. Working can be interpreted in many ways which are described below and on the links to the left. These types of work fall into several areas but the majority refer to “sport working” such as Schutzhund (Sch, VPG & IPO) or Agility. There are many types of “sport working” that are not included in this information yet but we may expand the information as we go.  Working is also used to refer to use of dogs in civil protection or security work. We do not sell dogs as “guard dogs” in the stereotypical understanding of this word; being a dog that lives in a garden, shop at night or in a breakers yard as a sole resident with the purpose of keeping intruders out.
 We do and have sold dogs to people who want a pet that will protect the family and even to people who run their own security firms and want a dog to work with them. The key difference between what we will and won’t sell a dog for is due to the fact that a Dobermann is a COMPANION breed and therefore we will not support any use where the dog will be left alone or with other dogs as their sole companionship for long periods of time. This being said, Dobermann do also make excellent protection dogs when the breeding is correct and Vasco is currently being trained in civil protection having already completed his IPO1. It is not something to go into lightly but we are always happy to talk through the pros and con’s and offer alternatives that are often available.
