MICROCHIPPING
Our Service
If you have arrived at this page the chances are you have a pet you wish to protect with a Microchip. As a responsible pet owner you will want to make sure that the products and the people you choose to help you achieve this, care as much about your pet as you do. It is also important that you receive value for money. If you are travelling abroad with your pet please visit our Pets Passport page.
At LUNASCURA we are certified microchippers via the PeddyMark training course. This service means we can microchip cats and dogs and the as a result register the microchip on the national database through PetLog. We currently microchip all of our own puppies before they leave us but we also microchip other peoples pets and litters for them in the comfort of their own home.
The costs are as follows:
- Single Dog/Cat - £15.00
- 2-3 Dogs/Cats - £13.50 each
- 4+ Dogs Cats - £11.00 each
- 6 or less puppies/kittens - £11.00 each
- 6+ puppies/kittens - £10.00 each
- Mileage as agreed at time of booking.
Through using our service you save money on the procedure and travelling time, your pet will feel even less stress being micro-chipped in the familiar surroundings of home. The procedure is very simple and is no more painful than any other subcutaneous injection between the shoulder blades. A pet will not be aware of the microchip's presence under the skin once it has been implanted. It is important that only a trained Implanter or Vet carries out the microchipping.
WHY MICRO CHIP?
Every day unidentified pets are humanely destroyed in animal homes throughout the country. Many could have been reunited with their worried owners if identification had been possible. Collars break and identification tags fall off and get lost. For a one-off payment a pet can be microchipped and owners details logged into a central database for life. If your pet is lost, stolen or has run away, with a micro chip fitted, you will be contacted as soon as your pet is found. There are over 3,000 scanners in use all over the country, at rescue centres, vets, dog wardens and police, which can read the unique code stored in the microchip. It is then a simple process of looking up the owner details stored on the PetLog database. PetLog is the national central database run by the Kennel Club. PetLog will confirm your contact details and you will be reunited with your pet. Microchipping is a harmless and permanent way to identify your pet.
Why use PeddyMark microchips?
PeddyMark are members of BSAVA 's Microchip Advisory Group and conform to its code of conduct. They are also dedicated to reducing the cost of having your pet microchipped. The PeddyMark ID162 device is an 11.5mm x 2mm bio compatible glass capsule containing a microchip. The chip is passive and does not contain a power source therefore will effectively last for ever. The PeddyMark microchip is activated by the reader and transmits a globally unique identification number to a reader where it appears on the LCD display. The technology is standardised and conforms to ISO standard 11784/11785 and it can be used for virtually any pet.
National Pet Identification Service
Of the price you pay for each microchip £2 is paid to Petlog to be part of the Petlog Scheme. Therefore, once microchipped with a chip that is part of the Petlog Scheme, your details will be added to Petlog's National Pet Identification database. Access to this database for reuniting lost pets with their owners is available to authorised agencies 24 hours a day throughout the year. You will also have access to this information on this website so you can keep your details up to date.
ABOUT THE MICRO CHIPPING PROCEDURE
The microchipping process is very short. It takes only a couple of seconds to do the micro chipping and the rest of the time spent is filling out the paperwork, which should take but 10 minutes. By the end of the day your pet will be registered onto the PetLog system.
The microchip is about the size of a grain of rice. Once inserted, the microchip cannot move about or be seen, but can be read by a scanner through the skin. It is injected with a scalpel sharp, sterile needle under the skin of the neck, between the shoulder blades, in a simple and quick procedure, just like an ordinary injection.
IS IT PAINFUL FOR MY PET TO BE MICRO CHIPPED?
It is not painful for the animal to be micro chipped or to have the micro chip in place. The injection of the micro chip can be compared to us getting a paper cut, due to the sharpness of the needle.
